Venice and its history are full of continuous interactions between design, art and craftsmanship such us the well known stories of Venini or the eclectic Fortuny. The interplay between expression and project and between visual arts and design have today become a kind of "flotation" among the various fields. From this concept the title LIQUIDI/DISEGNI (liquids/drawings) has been chosen for the theme of Venice Design week.
The fact that Design has extended beyond its own boundaries of knowledge is not a momentary phenomenon. It’s strong roots are supported by many factors such as the the increasing demand of projects on the emotive and sensorial areas in relation to concepts such as health and wellness. Another important factor is the use of design for public services and the relationship between man and machine.
Venice Design Week is strongly committed to the history and culture of Venice. Its goal makes it a unique event in comparison to other weeks or festival dedicated to design: to investigate this new polysemic concept of the project, interacting and in constant evolution.
1. TALKS Saturday and Sunday afternoon
Amarcord: Dialogue with internationally renowned designers who have promoted this interaction between design, visual arts and crafts; it is the perfect continuation of the "dialogue around the design" inaugurated in 2010 with Gillo Dorfles.
Movies and Design
The voice of design: an investigation on how the internet and the press has changed the relationship between perception and design planning.
The spread of design in the territory: safety net? All those organizations which have promoted the assessment and mapping of the new centers of creativity accross the territory.
Participation in design: examples of processes and best practices that start from the user and end with the definition of the product.
The sustainable lightness of global/local: all those experiments which have promoted innovative interactions between sustainability, design and glocal with forms such as maps, festivals and meetings between industry and pecular design features.
2. WORKSHOPS and GUIDED TOURS on the footsteps of design from Monday to Saturday morning play with designers in workshops dedicated to children and the young people of the first and second cycle schools, organized by designers and cultural associations. Guided tours of museums of Venice, such as the Glass Museum of Textiles, Lace, applied arts, the Museum of Oriental Art, ... looking for the relationship between craft and design in different eras. For adults and families.
3. INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION "MAKING THINGS" Art, Crafts, Industry. the theme has the goal of creating a set of objects using different techniques.
4. WIDESPREAD EXPOSURES entitled LIQUIDISEGNI (LIQUID/DRAWINGS), where designers are invited to reflect on the theme and 30 designers will exhibit in 30 places.

CATCHMENT AREA
Venice Design Week aims to involve the general public as well as design enthusiasts and professionals. It occurs during the Art Biennale which in 2009 recorded 375,000 visitors, the presence of tourists recorded in the historical center in October 2010 were approximately 580,000. The 2010 edition of Venice Design Week in October recorded 4600 visits to the web portal from 40 different countries.
STAY OF ACTIONS ON THE CLOSING OF DESIGNWEEK
The web portal is an archive of past editions and is continually being expanded with new sections dedicated to creativity and the relationship with the local territory. The Venice Design Week plans to become an annual event. The third edition in 2012 is already confirmed.
Website Development - www.designweek.it will support Design Week in Venice. The portal can collect information on all the participants at the event and allows the creation of a network of information on technologies and products to facilitate synergy between designers and companies.
Partnership activation with universities and courses of Italian and international design.
Request for local and regional sponsorship olso from the Ministry of Culture.
General press campaign to publicize the event. Advertising space is being acquired in various magazines that deal with art and design.
Specific press campaigns for all objective projects of Venice Design Week.

Dissemination during the Milan Show in April, during the Venice Biennale of Art, through posters and invitations, during CMY design forum in Berlin. The spreading of leaflets in venues of the Biennale of Architecture and in the cities of the project partners.
Realisation of a catalog of the participants in which each designer will have a space for one's own project.
Realisation of activities of social networking combined with leaflets off-line in the partner cities.
